Giuseppe Filotto was first exposed to Shotokan Karate and martial concepts when he was a very small child, thanks to his father who was deeply involved in this art. His formal training in Karate began when he left home at 19 and moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where he achieved a second dan grade. During this time he also worked for a number of years in the close protection service industry with clients ranging in nature and nationality from all over the world. He is a published author and qualified clinical hypnotist and now trains and instructs in the Russian system exclusively. He was certified as an instructor by Mikhail Ryabko in Moscow on the 22nd February 2008.
Uldis was in the Soviet Army from 1979 to 1981 and then began training in Systema with Valentin Vasiliev and Valeri Terletsky in 1981. At the time he was also taking part in inter-army sport competitions and eventually was qualified as a Dynamo Instructor (Soviet Army Sport Club which trained many of the top athletes of the Soviet Union, many of whom are recognised Olympic winners) in 1987. He was requested by the city councils of two cities (Dundaga and Roja in the ex-soviet republic) to help with the problems of youth crime and instituted a training program which reduced crime in the area drammatically in a very brief space of time. In 2002 he moved to the UK where he continues to train in the System.
Originally trained in Muay Thai at the age of 16 then moved to Krav Maga at age 22 under David Douieb in Paris until the age of 27. He moved to the UK in 2006 and began training in the System exclusively. He recently qualified as an instructor under Vladimir Vasiliev. He works with information technology in the financial sectors.
